We have a four year old who say terrible things to everyone like he wants to kill them and he hates them. He says this to me and my husband we don't even like to leave him alone with our other three children who are younger than him. He has been hospitalized twice and diagnosed with so many different things. Doctors put him on bipolar meds that were not fda approved for children. Anyone have any ideas on how to help him without medicating him? He will be going into kindergarten next year and I am really afraid to stick him in with all of the other children.

Hi. How are you doing? Any new developments with your son?
Thank you for replying. I did not see the 60 minutes was it a drug that killed her? I have recently taken my son off abilify which has not been tested on young kids. I know that some of the medications that doctors give younger children are not fda approaved but they give them out for kick backs and do not inform the parents but my husband and I immediatley go home and check out the fda approved list. This makes me so mad because that is my sons life. I learned this because the doctor he had at the very beginning put him on respiridol and he was sleeping 18 hours a day. I rather deal with him than have him down like that it doesn't fix the problem it only avoided it. Anyways thank you for the advice and we are from Danville Illinois
My heart goes out to you....So many things went thru my head when I read your post.....I was raised literally in the lap of child psychiatry...My Mom worked with children with issues at Napa State Hospital while I was a child and teen....I have seen Tourettes Syndrome acted out in much the same manner you describe, it is more common than one might think....also amazingly enough food allergies can manifest in dramatic ways....It has been found that children with allergies and nutrient absorbtion issues can be impacted in ways that present as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders...Were I your family I would start at the bottom and basics and work my way up...A Homeopathic M.D,Then try The University...They have some great, creative people,...If you don`t have great insurance, call Childrens Cabinet and see what resources they have....If you need somewhere to park your other little ones when you are trying to manage your little boy`s needs, I would be happy to offer my help gratis...I am a licensed caregiver and fairly easy to check out...Let me know if I can help...
Thank you so much. My husband and I had researched a lot including tourettes but we had never brought it up to his doctor. I guess when I think of tourettes I think of out of control body movements. Aspergers syndrome, ADHD, and tourettes have a lot of similar symptoms and it is hard to watch when doctors are trying to figure it out. For a while I felt like we were letting our son be a guinia pig with all the meds. We noticed his symptoms right before his sister was born when he ws 11 months old he was such a happy baby though. But I will difinately look into the university doctors. He was seeing a speciailist in Illinois. Thank you so much.

I've read alot about more children getting an overflow of yeast in their system... causing immune problems and behavior issues.. Have his stools ever been tested for yeast? Has his immune system been looked into, to see how its functioning?
By no means do I have any experience with this type of thing but my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
And always.. go with your gut, no one knows your child more than you!
As a personal trainer and mom, I feel that diet has so much to do with our dispostion, mood, and mood swings.
While these seem to be severe mood swings, I have heard of people having incrediible reactions to food allergies. I too would suggest getting your child tested for food allergies. It is an "alternative" therapy, but how great would it be if you found out that the whole reason your child was behaving this way, was because he was allergic to wheat (for example)?
For now, you could at least try cutting out all sugars and refined carbohydrates (things with white flour or white rice etc.) and see if that helps. If nothing else he will be healthier.
