
This is a passion of many women, we seem to be natural born leaders and role models for our children an the leaders of tomorrow, so I thought I would encourage a discussion around how we can participate in volunteer activities that are kid friendly?
Share your thoughts on opportunities to give back to our community that are kid friendly?

My daughters and I have volunteered at Marvin Piccolo School. We've spent time in nursing homes and shelters. We grab a plastic bag and head out in our neighborhood collecting trash and garbage.
We believe, as you do, that it is important to invest in the community you live in.
Count me in on helping develop or organize a volunteer day or event.

There is a great new section of RJG that is within the NEIGHBORHOODS section and has many volunteering activities and I was wondering if they could come up with an 'icon' that denotes a volunteer event is "kid friendly? What do you think?

My daughter and I have volunteered at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada for the "Backpack Kids" program. We helped fill backpacks with food for children who have no food over the weekends.
While driving home, my daughter commented on how she felt good knowing that her little bit of work could help feed a child, maybe even a girl like her. That was really good to hear.
As parents we can say all day long, "Appreciate what you have." But it's that first-hand look at how the world works, that really can hit home with them.
There is a volunteer section in our Sunday Living section of the Sunday paper which lists several volunteer opportunities, many of which are kid friendly.
I think it's a great idea for everyone to get their kids involved on some level. It really is gratifying to see them actually "get it" from their own experiences.
